NOTES

A large, fragile, wedge-shaped shell to 200 mm which has rounded posterior margins. Has 8-12 radial ribs with spiny scales. The spiny scales can injure bare feet. The interior has a thin nacreous layer which does not cover the muscle scar. Burrows vertically in sand in lagoons and bays. A filter feeder which often has a commensal crab living in the body cavity.
