NOTES

A large summer migrant to 140 cm. Usually seen in large groups. Flies with the neck and legs held straight out. Strains out small aquatic invertebrates with its bill. Feeds in shallow water either walking and waving its head from side to side or rotating in a circle while stamping up and down. Seldom nests in southern Africa.
