NOTES

Ascidiacea are sac-like, sessile, marine invertebrates. They are filter feeders which are usually found attached to hard surfaces in shallow water. When disturbed, they forcibly eject water from their siphons which is the reason for their common name, "sea squirts". This edible species is eaten raw, cooked dried or pickled. It is an exotic species probably introduced by shipping.
