A paste is made from the corms to treat boils, carbuncles and abscesses
Wound treatments
A paste made from the corms is used to treat leg wounds
Infertility treatments
The Xhosa sleep on the corms to treat infertility

The bulbs are said to be edible
Venereal disease treatments
The corms are fried with Melianthus major, Melianthus comosus and Lobostomon fructicosus and made into an ointment to treat syphilis
